Sam Tryax In Forbury Race

Sam Tryax’s first appearance for the season will create interest in the University Handicap on the first night of the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s spring meeting on Saturday.

Sam Tryax, the winner of eight of his nine races last season—he lost his driver in an accident at Forbury Park at his other start—will be trying for his seventh successive win, which would carry him within striking distance of the record winning sequence of 10 for a pacer in New Zealand. This record is shared by War Buoy and Cardigan Bay. • Sam Tryax will race for a meagre stake of 81100 on Saturday. His part-owner and

trainer, R. C. Whitford, said that he had decided to start Sam Tryax because he felt it would be an easier race

than an open handicap. Sam Tryax’s main mission will be the $6OOO New Zealand Derby Stakes next month at Addington Raceway, and Whitford thinks the horse needs two or three races before that test Sam Tryax has been back in work for some months. He had a short spell after his win in the New Zealand Welcome Stakes early In April. He has been speeded up in his wink in the last few weeks, and much of his training has been on tracks outside Addington. Last Sunday he was given a trial at Templeton and he sped over 12 furlongs in 3:13, his last half-mile in 60. He looked in wonderful order after that race and even from 24 yards it is difficult to imagine him being tested in the Forbury Park race, which Is the second leg of the oncourse double and one of the six events of the jackpot. Whitford has no definite plans for him after Forbury Park, but there will be a race at Addington on October 29, and one at the Kaikoura meeting to suit him before the start of the New Zealand Cup carnival on November 11. He will have restricted

age events as well as open handicap races to suit him at the cup meeting as preliminaries to the Derby. The Christchurch reinsman, D. C. Watts, will again handle Sam Tryax in his races this season.
