TEACHERS’ MEETING

Motion Not Supported

<N.Z. Press association)

AUCKLAND, Oct. 8.

A motion .calling on teachers to support the National Union of Teachers in its stopwork meeting on November 11—by refusing to take classes of absent union members—was defeated at an Auckland regional meeting of the PostPrimary Teachers’ Association last evening. The National Union of Teachers stop-work is to take place if the Government does not meet the Post-Primary Teachers’ Association demand for a phased timetable by November 7 to reduce class sizes to 20 and 30. The Auckland regional chairman (Mr B. Long) said it would be unwise to give notice of an illegal act before it was necessary.
