The Brazilian, J. Bruder, beat P. Elvstrom (Denmark), by seconds yesterday to win the first of the six-race series for the world Finn class yachting championship. G. Aasblon (Sweden) was third in the opening race, which had been postponed five times because of hurricane Inga. Other leading placings were: P. Barrett (United States) 4, H. Sprague (United States) 5, G. Liljergen (Sweden) 6, A. Zawieja (Poland) 7, F. Albarelli (Italy) 8.

Fencing Title.—Elena Novikova (Russia) won the gold medal for the women’s individual foil at the world fencing championships in Havann-a. Iliana Drimba (Rumania) won second and Svetlana Chirkova (Russia) third.
