More Medium Cars

'T'HE most notable feature about car assembly in New Zealand during the first three months of this year was the sharp increase in the number of 1100 c.c. to 2000

e.c. cars assembled, says the Government Statistician (Mr J. V. T. Baker).

The number of under-1100 c.c. cars assembled has dropped considerably, and the number of over-2000 c.c. cars built has continued to decline.

In the first three months of this year 6193 cars in the 1100 c.c. to 2000 c.c. class were assembled, compared with 3281 in the same time last year. In the under-1100 c.c. class, 1827 cars were assembled compared with 3392 in the same time last year. The number of over-2000 c.c. cars assembled has been falling since 1967, 4448 were built in the first three months. Last year the figure was 3225, and this year 2194. Altogether in the three months 10,934 cars were assembled, compared with 9898 last year in the first three months, and 11,560 in the first quarter of 1967.
