Helicopter Rescue
(From Our Own Reporter; GREYMOUTH, July 3. An injured deerstalker, Raymond John Henderson, of Amberley, was transferred from South Westland bush country to the Westland Hospital yesterday, less than three hours after members of the Forest Service at Harihari were told of his plight The information that Mr Henderson was lying injured in the Lambert hut inland from Harihari, was given yesterday morning by Mr A. B. Leech, of Rangiora, who said Mr Henderson was hunting alone at the head of the Big Wanganui River on Tuesday when he fell off a bluff, suffering head, arm and leg injuries. He made his way to the Lambert hut, where Mr Leech was camping, and the latter left to get help. Constable R. A. V. Cooper, of Ross, was notified at 11.40 a.m., and a meat-recovery helicopter piloted by Mr M. Cain, of Ashburton, flew to the hut from Whataroa. Mr Cain flew Mr Henderson to Harihari, from where he was taken to Hokitika, arriving there at 2.10 p.m. The Westland Hospital today reported that Mr Henderson’s condition was satisfactory.
