Trentham Hopes In Good Form
Meldie and Running Scared, which will rainforce the Canterbury team for the second day of the Wellington winter meeting, shaped well In training at Rlccarton yesterday. Running Scared and Alberta went over six hurdles.
The pace was not strong for a start, but they quickened between the last two flights,
and Running Scared Jumped into a short lead at the fast flight. Running Scared will be taken north on Sunday and will race on the second day of the Wellington winter meeting. Another to travel on Sunday will be the brilliant three-year-old. Meldie. which will run in the Parliamentary Handicap. Meldie galloped keenly in the hands of w. Hastie to shade his stablemates, Harold Bank and David William, in a five-furlong barrier trial on the outside of the course proper. Harold Bank and David William will represent J. L. Barr’s stable in the main flat race at Oamaru.
Istan Light, which was taken north last evening and will run in the Marirl Steeplechase on the first day at Trentham, was given a working gallop over a mile on the No. 6 grass yesterday. He was allowed to quicken for the last three furlongs in 44 l-ssec.
R. Weaver will ride Istan Light at Trentham. Baghdad Note was never above three-quarter pace on the No. 6 grass. He was another to go north last night, and if he travels well he should be in good shape for the Te Aro Hack Handicap.
