HAMILTON, July 3.
“The kindest thing I would like to say about the Government is that it is gutless,” said Mrs F. P. O’Donnell, of Hamilton, who with her husband organised the petition which led to the commission of inquiry into Scientology.
Mrs O’Donnell said the commission’s report, which did not' recommend legislative action against Scientology, was a great disappointment.
The O’Donnells called for the inquiry because of the involvement of their teen-age son and daughter in the cult Mrs O’Donnell said the competent action of governments overseas for the control of Scientology “must be a clear indication of the virulent nature of the threat “We did not necessarily want the Government to ban Scientology here. The mind-controlling processing methods are what we want eradicated, for they are the danger. “Parliamentarians in countries such as . Australia
(where several States have banned the cult) must regard with alarm the lack of decisiveness by their New Zealand counterparts,” she said.
