MAN NOT NAMED
Body Found In River
Christchurch police are still unable to name the man whose body was found on the bank of the Heathcote River near Catherine Street last Sunday. They have appealed to all persons who may know of a man of his description they have not seen in the last fortnight to get in touch with the police. They are especially interested in tracing anyone of the description who left his work or lodging in the last fortnight The body had been in the river for about 10 days and decomposition has made photographs unreliable. ‘ , Although It was at first thought the man was a Maori or an Islander it is now considered he may have been European. The man was aged about 40 and was 6ft, of solid build with dark hair. He may have begun to grow a goatee beard. The sides of his face are clean shaven. The police have received many suggestions from persons as to who the dead man may be but checks have given no leads.
The police have checked factories and other businesses in the Sydenham-Woolston-Opawa area.
