Maheno May Have Little Cargo
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent)
SYDNEY, June 16. Because of a continuing industrial dispute there will be almost no cargo for the Tasman freighter Maheno when she arrives in Sydney tomorrow.
A spokesman for the ship’s owner, the Union Steam Ship : Company, said this morning ' that motors were about all ' that could be received at the Tasman terminal. Successive bans, by the • Transport Workers Union and the Federated Clerks . Union, on unit cargo for , Union Company ships out of ■ Sydney has led to the present situation. The bans were applied as a result of a dispute between i the unions about who should
: tally cargo for unit loads. I In spite of a Court order I ; for lifting of the bans last I Friday the Clerks Union I i embargo was still in force I today. The bans also affected I cargo for the company’s Syd- I ney-Tasmania ship Seaway I Queen, and she left for Hob- I art yesterday almost empty. I - Unless the dispute is settled I quickly the company fears the I Maheno will have to return I to New Zealand on Thursday I virtually in ballast.
