OVERSEAS TRADING

SYDNEY Ai* sections of the market moved upwards in Sydney yesterday, continuing the strength evident at the end of last week. The general volume of trading was not heavy, however. Most of the market leaders performed well, Hamersley jumping 70c to close at 1180 c. Mt Isa rising 16c to 950 c and Vam closing 20c up at 720 c. C.R.A. gained 20c to close at 1750 c while the rights closed at 1050 c, also 20c higher. B.H.P. was disappointing, falling to 1470 c before closing 15c down at 1480 c. The contributings also lost 15c to close at 1195 c. All markets closed firm.

MELBOURNE Prices moved upwards in the mining and oil sections In Melbourne today, with rises outnumbering falls by better than three to one. Industrials were stronger, although the market leader, 8.H.P., closed 40c down at 1460 c after trading during the day at 1490 c. Encouraged by favourable London comment, prices rose in all sections, although trading was restrained.
