Five hundred vintage cars will take part in the Sydney to Melbourne international vintage car rally next year. More than 90 New'Zealand vintage enthusiasts have entered for the event, and other entries are from the United States, South Africa, Brazil and France. Gethin also won the previous three races, but on this occasion he was strongly challenged by D. Hobbs in a Team Surtees TS-Chev-rolet. In practice Gethin broke the over-all Mallory Park lap record, set by Denis Huime in a 6-litre Lola Chevrolet, by nearly 4sec, his time of 43.8 sec also being Isec faster than Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart during a Formula I demonstration run last year.
