June Foal Unexpected

Nancy, the pet of maSiy Ohoka children, has given birth to her ninth foal—at the age of 23, and in mid-winter. Born on June 8, the foal has been named Mary Poppins. Owned by Mr M. H. Bristow, of Ohoka, Nancy has been with his family all her life, ridden almost from the time she could stand. Lately she has been “adopted” by the family of Mr R. V. Hamilton, also of Ohoka. His children were riding Nancy on the Saturday little knowing a foal was imminent. Nancy’s giving birth to a foal at her age, and at this unseasonable time of year, has been a cause of some wonder to Mr Bristow. “I’ve been breeding horses since 1929, and this is the first one to be born in June,” he said. However, having a foal to care for has delighted the Hamilton family, .and many other children in the neighbourhood, too.
