Changed Uniform For Hostesses
A new, lively, coralcoloured uniform with a modestly short skirt was worn by Qantas Airways hostesses at Christchurch International Airport yesterday. The new uniform replaces the familiar, aqua blue model, and it was created by Australian designer, Mr Leon Paule. The material is of polyester and gaberdine, a blending chosen for its “wearability,” and the colour is from a special dye which can now be used only for Qantas uniforms. The A-line dress falls from a square yoke with just a hint of specially designed gusset sleeves to give extra freedom of movement. Two small imitation pockets on the bust-
line are highlighted with pale cream stitching. The gold buttoned jacket has a high, rounded neckline and imitation pockets are set into the welted seaming at the hip-line. Cream stitching outlines the pockets, yoke, sleeves, neck, and hem. Brown welted stitching points up the double-breasted coat, which also fastens with Florentine gold buttons. Accessories are in brown—antique calf, squared toe shoes with chunky heels and a buccaneer tongue laced up through a small gold ring. The flap fastening of the handbag is held with a gold clasp.
A puff-shaped beret, topped with a soft, flat bow, and worn slightly to one side, replaces the former model.
