Theft From Church

A large brass candlestick and two bottles of communion wine were taken from the Phillipstown Anglican Church, Phillips Street, Linwood, during the week-end. The candlestick was taken from the altar. It was one of six on the altar over the week-end, during which period the church was open as normal. The value of the candlestick and wine total $25.70.

Cigarettes valued at $l7 were stolen from Martins Food Store in Ferry Road on Friday night, and cigarettes worth $4.80 were taken when an automatic vending 1 machine in Cathedral Square was forced on Sunday. Other burglaries over the week-end included: a transistor radio and electric irons of a total value of $7l, taken from Ashby Berghs, Ltd, Manchester Street; a dozen jars of coffee valued at $8.42 taken from the Durham Street offices of Mid-Canter-bury Transport, Ltd; $1 in money from the Belfast Primary School.
