Player and writer dies

A former Canterbury B cricket captain, Mr C. L. King, died recently in Wellington after a long association with the sport as a player and journalist. Mr King also represented Southland and West Coast and played for the Christchurch Boys’ High School first XI and the Lancaster Park club. After a period as a schoolteacher, Mr King followed his father into journalism in Christchurch. He worked in Greymouth and Mataura before joining the “Dominion” in Wellington in 1937. He became the sports editor of the newspaper and toured South Africa as the New Zealand Press Association’s correspondent with the 1949 All Blacks. After his retirement from active sport Mr King coached lower grade cricket and Rugby Union teams and was a vice-president of the Midland Cricket Club.
