Change Of Name?

The name of the University Grants Committee should be changed to the “Committee Restricting the Flow of Funds into the University System,” said Mr D. W. Bain at yesterday’s meeting of the Canterbury University Council. He said this after a discussion on the difficulty of the Rochester Hall authorities in obtaining assurances over a subsidy and added that since the formation of the Grants Committee 10 years ago as a body to act for universities, he had found it hard to appreciate that this was, in fact, its function.
