N.Z.-Bred Gaelic Spirit Still Unbeaten

(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. The unbeaten New Zealandbred sprinter Gaelic Spirit finished fast to win the Harris Park Handicap (6f.) for two-year-old fillies at Rosehill on Saturday. Gaelic Spirit (Bourbon Prince —Jumble), a heavily-backed favourite, carried the topweight of 9-9 and equalled the race record of 1:12.3. She appeared to struggle in fourth place at the turn but responded magnificently to hard riding by R. Quinton. In a powerful run over the final furlong, Gaelic Spirit caught the front-running Star of Sheba 50 yards from the line, and won by half a length, with four lengths to the third horse, Golden Jade.

Gaelic Spirit has started four times for four wins. She will have one more run before con. testing the $40,000 Golden SlipSer Stakes at Randwick on arch 22.

Horses raised in New Zealand won three other races on the Rosehill card.

Court Prince (Test Case—Miss Florabunda) won the Parramatta Cup by three lengths from Merry Princess. An outsider, Lease King, was third and Del Charro, the only other starter, a distant fourth. Grenade, a three-year-old Faux Tirage gelding, won the Auburn Graduation Stakes (lOf.) after minor placings in his last four starts.

The six-year-old Royal Marine (Able Seaman—Frandore), finished solidly on the rails to take the Holroyd Welter (7}f.), beating the favourite, Flirtatious, by a length.

An outsider, Winged Beauty, won the Lidcombe Flying Handicap (6f.) by a neck from Eternal Youth. The favourite. Black Onyx, was a length away third.

Black Onyx looked the winner half-way down, the straight but then suffered a check. After the race the stewards suspended Nebo Road’s jockey, M.

Schumacher, for a month. He was found guilty of twice causing interference. The New Zealand.bred Broker’s Tip (Summertime— Fatephuri Sikri) ran fourth. General (Pharamond—Amarella) was the best performer among four New Zealand-breds in the Strathfleld Handicap (6f.) for two-year-old colts and geldings. She ran fourth behind Constant Rhythm, Lowland Prince and Remedy. The other New Zealand-breds, Macintank (Beau DiableEunomy), Atlantic Star (Better Honey—Anne de Beaupre) and Acropolic (Alcimedes—Gabardine), finished well back.
