MISSIONARY NURSE
Speaker At Services Miss M. Idour. of Dunedin, who has served in the field of nursing and nurse-training in India since 1957, spoke at services in three Anglican churches in Christchurch yesterday,, during a tour of South Canterbury and country districts of North Canterbury. Miss Idour spoke at St Luke's Church. Manchester Street, at St James's Church, Lower Riccarton and at St Chad’s Church, Linwood. Miss Idour did her general nursing training at the Dunedin Hospital, where she won the award for the best allround nurse. She specialised in post-graduate training and later in surgical training, maternity, and Plunket nursing. Training In England After several years as a ward and tutor sister. Miss Idour was accepted as a candidate by the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel and went to England, -where she underwent further maternity training with the Anglican nursing order, the Nursing Sisters of St John the Divine, in East End of London. From 1954 to 1956, Miss Idour did her training for work in the church overseas, at the College of the Ascension, Selly Oak. Birmingham,; and in 1957 went to India. She served as nurse in St Columba's Hospital, Hazaribagh, in the state of Bihar, where her work was in eon-; nection with the midwifery; unit. For some time, however, I she has been in charge of the; nurses’ training school. I While in New Zealand, Miss ’ Idour is gaining further experience in Dunedin.
