Water Polo Final

AUCKLAND. The Christchurch club. Wharenui, was beaten by Marenui (Wellington) in the New Zealand water polo club final last evening. The score was 6-3, but four of Marenui’s goals came from penalties. Wharenui began well, the 15-year-old P. J. Mulligan and the Canterbury representative goalkeeper. I. S. Farquhar, playing outstanding roles. However, in the second and third quarters the stronger Wellington players flustered the Wharenui defence into errors. Scorers for Wharenui were R. Gunthorpe (2) and T. M. McGirr. Results of other matches were: .Junior championship: Canterbury 11, Manawatu 8; Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay 11.
