Sir, —That heading in today’s Issue of “The Press”— “Man fined $l5O for assault with stool in restaurant”— reminds me of a case that came to my notice years ago when I was a regular soldier in England. A private soldier, actually a drummer, was up before his company commander on a charge of “Highly irregular conduct in the Cadena (or whatever, the name was) Cafe, Woking; i.e., striking a waitress across the face with a ham sandwich.” And, if it was a really ancient sandwich, it might well have hurt almost as much as a stool.—Yours, etc., ILAM.
