The Railways

Sir,—With all respect to Patrick' Neary’s clean air judgment, his contention on urban traffic represents some official defeatist, retrogressive attitude—keep cars out of the city. If carried to its conclusion this would mean the death of the city; transport is the life blood of both town and country. Future development will be cheap massproduced mini-mini driveronly cars—instead of cluttering the streets with 50cwt, 100 m.p.h. status symbols, which are used for 90 per cent of their mileage for the driver only.—Yours, etc., SETH NEWELL. February 7, 1969.
