Walker At Otaio
The veteran walker, Mr T. A. Sampson, said last night that he was feeling “goodoh” and that everything was all right after completing a tramp of about 16 miles from Washdyke to Otaio in hot, dusty conditions yesterday. Mr Sampson slept last night at Mr G. H. Moffat’s farm at Otaio, south of Timaru, and was due to set off early this morning for Waimate. From there he will make another short walk to reach North Otago. On Thursday night Mr Sampson stayed at the Beverley War Veterans’ Home in Timaru and “reveille” sounded early yesterday. The superintendent (Mr J. Mains) drove Mr Sampson to Washdyke, leaving him at the point where his walk from Picton to Bluff was broken on Wednesday.
