Hail Damage To Wheat

About 35 claims having been withdrawn, the general manager of the Wheat Board, Mr L. C. Dunshea, said this week that there were still 228 claims for compensation for hail damage to 3700 acres of wheat. Mr Dunshea said that the claims had come almost equally from Mid-Canter-bury and the Southbridge to Tai Tapu area further north.

In three very extreme cases crops had been a total write-off, he said, and in some other cases crops had been severely damaged, but in still other cases the damage was not very severe. On Thursday of last week Mr Dunshea said that there had also been hail damage in the Rangitikei area in the North Island and there could be five or six claims from that area.
