Grateful Patient
CA'.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Feb. 6. One of the first things Mr H R. Austin, a retired 86-year-old American engineer, did when his ship, the Sagafjord. came to Auckland earlier this-week, was to take agtrip to Mater Misericordiae hospital and give a donation. Mr Austin, who was in business in New York until a few years ago, lives with his wife in Connecticut and is one of the many Americans who each year cruise in the Sagafjord, which arrived in Wellington today. In 1964 he was one of the 14 passengers, of whom two died, who contracted enteritis on the ship. He was taken ashore to a waiting ambulance when the vessel reached Auckland. “It cost me only 354 for the three weeks in hospital and this would be the cost of a loom for one day in New York,” he said.
