Benefit To N.Z. From P.A.T.A. Conference

,(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 7.

New Zealand will be host country of the Pacific Area Travel Association’s annual conference next year; and according to the association’s newly-appointed president, Mr R. S. Austin, who is the general manager of the Tourist and Publicity Department, New Zealand must benefit greatly from it.

The conference will be in Auckland from April 13 to 17.

“It has been proved that as each country has a P.A.T.A. conference the intake of tourists immediately rises,” said Mr Austin. “Competition to hold the conference is very serious in: deed —we have had a real battle to get it—and the benefits f rom it are considerable.” Mr Austin returned this week from Bangkok, where

the 1969-conference was held. The conference was attended by 890 delegates and 224 wives. • ;

“From the number of people who said to me: ‘We will see you next year,’ I think we will have to revise our previous expectations of 600 to 700 and think more of perhaps 900 or so,” he said.
