AGRICULTURAL CHEMICALS STAFF APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for positions in the Agricultural Chemicals Division. Responsibilities include field testing of new products and advisory work on the use of Shell agricultural chemicals. These positions offer interesting and rewarding opportunities to men wishing to use their knowledge in a technical or technical/commercial field and in assisting in the achievement of greater primary production in New Zealand. The Shell Group of companies, although best known for “oil” products, is also a leading manufacturer and marketer of agricultural chemicals. Extensive research has resulted in the introduction of a number of outstanding products in this field and others will soon be reaching the market. In New Zealand, Shell offers a comprehensive range of formulated agricultural chemicals for crop, pasture and livestock use and markets these through a countrywide network of appointed distributors. Shell also supplies technical materials to other manufacturers. Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in agricultural science or a good diploma in agriculture. Each successful applicant will be well paid and eligible to join an excellent pension fund. Arrangements will be made for him to own and run a new car where this is required to carry out his duties. PLASTICS REPRESENTATIVE Enquiries are invited from men interested in an appointment as a Plastics Representative. GRADUATES IN CHEMISTRY Graduate chemists are employed on quality control and technical service work at the Shell Central Laboratory in Wellington and also in the marketing of Shell industrial chemical products throughout New Zealand. Applications are now invited for positions in both of these fields. The Central Laboratory is staffed by both graduates and technicians. It is the graduates’ responsibility to ensure that Shell’s wide range of petroleum products, including fuels, lubricants, industrial chemicals, detergents, agricultural chemicals, insecticides, bituminous materials, waxes, plastics, etc., meet constantly improving quality requirements. Technical service work is also carried out to enable customers to use Shell products to maximum advantage. Original research is not a principal function of this laboratory but the technical staff are required to adapt the results of Shell’s widespread research overseas to local manufacturing and marketing. The laboratory is fully equipped for these purposes and includes a reference library of scientific and technical publications. The specialist chemists concerned with marketing usually benefit from preliminary training in the Central Laboratory but thereafter they may be stationed in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. Each man, selected for his technical knowledge, commercial ability and personal qualities, covers a specific group of industries or products, and provides customers and other Shell staff with specialised advice in the effective sale and application of Shell industrial chemicals. This work appeals to those who enjoy travelling and meeting people, and who can respond to the challenge of a highly competitive and rapidly developing market.
