“The directors cannot see advantage to this company in a take-over,” the chairman of the Canterbury Frozen Meat Company, Ltd (Mr L. D. Cotterill) told the annual meeting of shareholders in Christchurch yesterday. “As has been announced, your directors agreed to the request of the Minister of Agriculture for exploratory discussions with an independent adviser. These discussions are still sub Judice, and I do not think I can say anything further other than that any further proposals to be submitted must be recommended to, and must be capable of acceptance by, our sharehold-
ers as being in their interests,” Mr Cotterill Mid. Some might be under the impression that the C.FJH. director* were negotiating terms of a merger. “I can assure you that this is not so,” Mr Cotterill said.
Explaining in more detail, later in the meeting, the origin and purpose of the exploratory discussions, Mr Cotterill Mid: “This is not a commitment I want to make it quite dear that the interests of our shareholders are the prime, and only, thing to consider when w* are considering possible avenues of cooperation.”
