More Jobs Than Apprentices

(N.Z. Priss Asgbci&tion) AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. As the effects of credit restrictions begin to wear off more apprenticeships are being offered in the building industry in Auckland. The manager of the Auckland Master Builders’ Association, Mr G. F. Knowles, said today there were more apprenticeships available than applicants. Over the last three months, when the main apprenticeship demand was met, 96 apprenticeships had been approved, an increase of 33 on the number for the period a year ago. There were signs of improvement in the industry generally in Auckland but some contractors finishing large projects were saying that unless they found mor* work within a month or so they might have to lay men off, Mr Knowles said.
