23 Nations Enter Auckland Fair

AUCKLAND, February 6.

Auckland will be New Zealand’s industrial shop window for 22 other countries which will be exhibiting at the international trade fair—the first in Auckland—in August and September.

The countries are Britain, Australia, the United States, Japan, Austria, Canada, Ceylon, Taiwan, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, France, Germany, India, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and the U.S.S.R. New Zealand will have a 6000 sq. ft display, mounted by the Government. The chairman of the fair committee (Mr D. O. Walker) said all the available space had been taken and additional exhibitors would have to provide their own.

About 65 per cent of the exhibits will be machinery and machine tools for industry. The fair manager (Mr J. A. Cormack) said 80 per cent of the mechanical exhibits would be working exhibits. The rest will be made up of consumer products (23 per cent) and promotional displays by governments. The number of countries

taking part had exceeded the original estimates, said Mr Walker. To enable the countries to display their wares the Government had authorised special import licences for the fair.

The display areas will exceed 200,000 sq. ft.
