VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE

Shortage Of Officers (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 6. Vocational guidance in Auckland was in a crisis, the retiring district vocational guidance officer (Mr W. J. H. Clark) said to the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce today. The council decided to ask the Associated Chambers of Commerce to make representations to the Minister of Education (Mr Kinsella) about the situation. Mr Clark said that when he became district officer 16 years ago the establishment in the Auckland office was seven men and six women, all trained officers. Today, there were still six women but until his successor took over after he left there would be no male officers. Because of this there would be no visits to boys’ secondary schools this year and it would probably be five years before the service could be brought back to normal.
