Fellowship Branch Formed

A Christchurch branch of the Catholic Peace Fellowship was formed at a meeting attended by about 40 persons last evening. Professor Vernon Griffiths was elected patron and Mr M. O’Neill secretary.

The national secretary (Mr B Watson, of Wellington) outlined the establishment of other groups throughout the country. Interest had increased after the suspension of two Auckland priests for taking part in an anti-Viet-ham war demonstration, he said.

The meeting agreed that promoting peace had a wide application and involved effort towards achieving social justice in all spheres. It was said that the fellowship was not narrowly pacifist but could act as a stimulus to other groups and organisations in the Church to consider and discuss issues important to all Christians.
