Conditions Ideal At Wanganui For Roman Consul Today

‘The Press” Special Service

PALMERSTON NORTH.

The slight easing of the ground by recent rain will make conditions ideal for Roman Consul in the Earle Handicap at Wanganui today.

The Derby winner now looks an outstanding prospect in the first leg of the double at the Wanganui summer meeting. His trainer, J. N. Seiwood, expects Roman Consul to show rapid improvement on his Trentham form. The Agricola horse had only one start there, fading out in the Wellington Cup after having been handily placed to the home turn. At the last Wanganui meeting, Seiwood won the feature handicap with Roman Consul’s stablemate, Aristoc. This seems to be a lucky course for him, and in Roman Consul he has the right material to embellish his already impressive record there. The second leg of the double will be run on the Campbell Handicap, in which the main interest will centre on the clash between Togo and Dolopal. These horses stand out from their rivals. The Seiwood representative in this event will be Highbrown which, although yet to win an open sprint, has been running encouragingly. W. D. Skelton will ride Jen Hai in the first leg and Cote D’Azur in the second. Both horses galloped splendidly in their final trials on Thursday. Jpn Mai fwn racpsj at 1
