RULINGS ON NOVELS

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 31. The novel “The Exhibitionist," by Henry Sutton, published by Bernard Geis, London, is not indecent, the Indecent Publications Tribunal has decided. As a whole the book was not of outstanding merit, but it was written with moderate competence and expressed a sincerity of purpose, the tribunal said in a reserved judgment. In a further reserved judgment, the tribunal held that the novel, “Candy,” by Terry Southern and Mason Hollenberg, published by Bernard Geis, is indecent. The tribunal said the book presented a debased and trivialised view of sex.
