Home Garden Competition

About 60 entries are expected in the Christchurch Beautifying Association’s annual summer garden competition, which will be judged tomorrow.

Mr R. A. Proctor, one of the organisers, said yesterday that it was very pleasing to see that several new gardens had been entered. Considerable interest had also been shown in a new class this year, for non-conventional gardens. This included gardens not in the normal judging categories, such as stone gardens or those featuring a courtyard. With the exception of the novice class, most classes were divided according to the size of the garden frontage, Mr Proctor said. A new cup this year, the Gower Challenge Cup, would be awarded for the most outstanding feature in a garden.
