A wealth of golf information

New Zealand Golf Guide, compiled and edited by G. M. O’Shaughnessy. (Nelson Printers Ltd; 264 pages; 31.20.) 'THE sporting public is rarely at a loss for new books dealing with tours, techniques and reminiscences. Comprehensive publications such as the New Zealand Golf Guide come to hand all too seldom; but when they do, they make refreshing reading. The book’s-modest title masks a wealth of golfing information. As well as

containing details of the Dominion’s clubs, coloured maps showing their location, tournament dates and national and provincial officials and addresses, the golf guide has many other features which will bring it into constant use. There are interesting articles by I. D. Wells (Wellington) and Miss L. Lucas (Nelson), embodying the great names and great deeds in New Zealand golf, and sage words from the professionals, E. A. Southerden (Napier) and C. W. Caldwell (Christchurch). Mr Caldwell’s contribution is particularly interesting, as, it deals with the psychological aspect of golf as a means of improving scores. For players wishing to keep a detailed record of their rounds, the Golf Guide includes several pages of scoring charts—and even graphs, to provide the golfer with a vivid picture of his fortunes. The publication is well illustrated and is presented in a most attractive style. It is the editor’s intention to revise the guide every two or three years, to keep abreast of changes.
