FIRE IN TANKER

Fourteen members of the crew of a Liberian tanker unloading in Amsterdam were reported missing todaj’ after a series of explosions ripped through the ship. A blazing river of crude oil from the 33,759 ton tanker Diane, spewed over nearby wharves. Several hours after the first explosion lit up the fog-shrouded harbour, police announced that the fire was under control. Some of the 50-man crew dived from the tanker into the freezing harbour to escape the holocaust which injured 12 people and destoreyed dockside oil-handling installations. The ship was unloading 400,000 barrels of crude oil at the time of the first explosion.
