Early Christchurch

Sir, —No-one I have approached can remember a building of rooks that took up residence in a big gum tree that grew where now stands H. F. Stevens, Ltd, in Worcester Street Nearby were wine cellars and a private garden, but what buildings, if any, were on this and the Press Company site I cannot remember. If any of your readers can recall this part of old Christchurch, confirmation would be welcomed. I do not believe my imagination can have run riot. When the gum was felled the rooks moved camp to Mr Humphreys estate in Fendalton.— Yours, etc., R. J. GLEN. November 9, 1968.
