Hakim Has Easy Win
Hakim fully justified his sur6 rise favouritism in the Canterury Stakes at Addington Race* way on Saturday. He led practically from end to end and was not really tested in the run* home. It was a grand effort and one which suggested that he will be a threat in rich classic events later in the spring.
Hakim is trained at Papanui by C. McDonald, who races biro in partnership with Mr J. Wong. The partnership bought him from Mrs N. J. Ormandy, of Oamaru, about 12 months ago. He is a half-brother by Garrison Hanover to Golden Oriole, an outstanding winner from W. R Butt’s stables in recent years.
Evette, from 12 yards, paced a splendid race to take second by half a head from Clandeboye which had every chance. Intrepid. never in the clear, was half a length back fourth, half ? length in front of Sheer Delight Little Marvel made up ground for a close sixth, just ahead of La Guardia, which iyas blocked for .a run in the straight Frozen and Worthy Guest, which covered extra ground, headed the others.
Waitaki Elect, Global Haze. Kran, Worthy Guest and Local Lie lost ground at the start.
Suspension.—R. D. Butt was suspended until September 23 at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s meeting at Addington on Saturday. Butt was found guilty, of causing interference to Direct Globe and Uteena early in the running of the Winter Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B. double.
