No Electra Flights Across Tasman
(New Zealand Press Association)
AUCKLAND, July 12.
AU Air New Zealand Electra flights across the Tasman this week-end have been cancelled, because of an Australia-wide strike of fuel tanker drivers, says a statement by the airline tonight.
The strike has spread to most centres in Australia, but Darwin is not affected. This means that Melbourne and Wellington are without Tasman air services because their airports cannot take jets. However, Air New Zealand is trying to arrange for passengers from Wellington to be taken on DCS jet flights
leaving Auckland and Christchurch. A delay to some passengers seems inevitable. Air New Zealand services to North America and the Pacific Islands are not affected by the strike. Services to Singapore tomorrow and to Hong Kong on Sunday will be as usual, but some rerouting may be necessary. The Air New Zealand service to Singapore tomorrow will go by Darwin instead of Sydney. It will leave Auckland about 5 p.m. The service from Auckland to Hong Kong through Australia on Sunday will follow a similar route and some late running is expected.
