FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A depression lies to the east of New Zealand and an associated trough of low pressure is moving north over eastern coastal areas of New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury.—Winds from the southerly quarter, fresh in some coastal places; showers persisting about the coast and in inland areas of North Canterbury but clearing elsewhere; remaining cold. Coastal Marlborough.—Southerlies fresh or strong in exposed places; cold and changeable with further showers; snow on the ranges to about 1000 ft. Central Marlborough and Nelson.—Light or moderate southerlies; mainly fine but scattered showers about the hills with some snow; cold. Buller and Westland.—Winds mostly moderate and variable; fine but cold. Outlook.—Some showers in coastal Marlborough; fair in remaining districts. CHRISTCHURCH READINGS
