Vegetable And Fruit Prices
The first feijoas for some time were auctioned at the Christchurch produce markets yesterday. They fetched between $2 and $2.50 a case. The demand for cooking vegetables was varied and a fair change on recent prices was evident. Sprouts continued to be in demand and cases fetched up to $6.50, about $1.70 a case more than those auctioned earlier in the week. Carrots also fetched higher prices. Selling at up to $2 a case they were at least $1.20 a case more than those auctioned earlier in the week. Marrows, beetroot, pumpkins, cabbages and parsnips also increased In price. Silver beet, cauliflowers and spinach were cheaper. The official price range supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers* Association is:— Marrows.—To 80c a case. Silver Beet.—To 80c a case. Pumpkin.—To $1.50 a sack. Cabbages.—To $2.60 a sack. Carrots.—To $2 a case. Cauliflowers. —To $2.70 a case. Onions.—s2 to $2.50 a bag. Parsnips.—To $1.30 a case. Sprouts.—To $6.50 a case. Swedes. —To $l.lO a bag. White Turnips.—To $1.20 a dozen. Potatoes.—Boc to $1.20 a sugar bag. Kumeras.—To $4 a bag. Parsley.—To 16c a bunch. Lettuce.—Glasshouse: To $2.50 a case. Outdoor: To $3 a case. Leeks.—To $1.65 a case. Celery.—White: To $1.90 a case. Utah: To $2.20 a case. French Beans.—Glasshouse: 45c per lb. Spinach.—To $2.50 a case. Rhubarb.—To $2.50 a dozen bunches. Tomatoes. —To 65c per lb. Mandarins. —$1.65 to $3 a third case. Grapes.—6oc to $1 a case. Tamarillos.—s2 to $2.75 a case Chinese Gooseberries.—sl.so to $3 a case. Feijoas.—s2 to $2.50 a case.
