SMOKE FROM HOUSES
Move By Clean Air Society
The Christchurch Clean Air Society has again called for amendments to the Health Act, 1956.
In a letter to the air pollution committee of the Christchurch Regional Planning Authority, the secretary of the society (Mr C. R. Belcher) asked the committee to send to all affiliated councils, details of a resolution passed at the 1966 conference of the Municipal Association. The resolution requested that amendments be made to two clauses of the Health Act. The first was the deletion from clause 29 (m) of the words “but not including the chimney of a private dwelling-house” and the second the deletion from clause 64 (1) (w) of the words “other than chimneys of private dwelling-houses.” “Some action was sought on this matter over two years ago by a responsible body of representative public opinion, and yet, as far as we can find out, no action has been taken,” Mr Belcher said in the letter.
