Garrigue, saying that if there is any misconduct by his players towards female members of the Hotel Workers’ Union, other members will refuse to service them. A resolution was passed at a union meeting in Auckland today. The secretary of the union (Mr G. Armstrong) said that he had heard reports that the French players had become “a bit frivolous” with female staff.
A letter on the subject Is also being sent to Mr T. C. Morrison, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union.
Mr Garrigue said in Christchurch that he had not received any letter from the union and he had no comment to make.
The president of the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr R. A. Mace (Nelson), who has been travelling with the team and who has stayed in each of the hotels, said there had been no complaints made by any of the hotelkeepers. “On the contrary, the managers have congratulated the team on their behaviour and expressed pleasure at having the team in their hotels,” he said.
