FREIGHT RATES

121 p.c. Rise Rejected (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 11. New Zealand's negotiators, led by Sir John Ormond, chairman of the Meat Board rejected the demands for a 12j per cent increase in freight charges, made by the shipping companies in London this week, the Meat Board said today. An application by the Conference Line delegates, representing the four main British shipping companies, for the increase could not be considered by the New Zealand producers, Sir John Ormond said. He was fully supported by the chairman of the Dairy Board (Sir Andrew Linton) and Mr S. D. Sinclair, of the Apple and Pear Board. Sir John Ormond said that New Zealand had made valuable and successful efforts to reduce shipping costs and that freight charges should not be altered.
