RUBBER WORKERS

Others Give Support

The management committee of the Canterbury Rubber Workers' Union had decided that the rubber workers at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of New Zealand Ltd, and Dunlop, New Zealand, Ltd, would give moral and financial support to the 200 striking workers at Empire Rubber Mills, Ltd, Woolston, said the union's secretary (Mr T. Fletcher) yesterday. At an emergency meeting, the committee had endorsed the action of the-workers in striking. Mr Fletcher said that the strikers would not return to work till a dismissed job delegate (Mr H. Melhopt) returned with them. The Empire workers would reassemble at 10 a.m. on Friday to discuss developments and to hear reports, Mr Fletcher said.
