N.Z. Teachers Meet Queen
IBy ZALIA THOMAS) LONDON, July 2. Two New Zealand teachers were chosen to present a bouquet to the Queen Mother and to sit next to her at tea at the annual Commonwealth and American Exchange Teachers’ garden party at Lancaster House, London. They were Miss Noela Grindley, of Dunedin, who presented the flowers, and Mr Donovan Croft, formerly of Wellington. Miss Grindley is now teaching seven-year-old boys on the Isle of Man. She has been teaching in Britain for three years. Mr Croft, formerly on the staff of a primary school at Opotiki, is now teaching children in Northern Ireland. After tea, the Queen Mother met her guests in the gardens of Lancaster House, which is next door to her London home, Clarence House. She stood for more than an hour receiving some 188 ■ teachers from Australia, Canada, Jamaica, New Zealand and the United States. Many of the teachers were accompanied by their wives or husbands, who were also presented.
Teachers from Canterbury and the West Coast presented included Mr Norman Greenway, of Christchurch, and Mrs Greenway; Mr Kevin McGrath, of Hokitika, and Mrs McGrath; and Miss Patricia McQuilkin, of Christchurch.
