Inquiries At Trentham

(N.Z. Press Association) „ WELLINGTON. Comrade (M. Dombroski) raced disappointingly and was tailed off at the finish of the Trentham Hurdles at Trentham on Saturday. He jumped the first two hurdles badly and was marked on both stifles. Though Comrade made ground in the middle stages, Dombroski told an inquiry that the horse was never travelling well, and his jumping throughout was indifferent. The stewards ordered Comrade swabbed, and the veterinary surgeon reported that the horse was in a fairly exhausted condition when the swabbing was carried out. High Society (F. Blackburn) also ran disappointingly. He was ridden in behind to take advantage of Humber's frontrunning tactics. This evidently did not suit High Society, which jumped poorly at several fences and was marked on the stifles as a result. High Society's trainer, A. D. Whiteman, said that as the horse did not race up to his best form by being restrained he would be allowed to make the pace at his next start if circumstances permitted. Whiti Te Ra (J. Harris) stumbled leaving the stalls in the Whyte Handicap and lost several lengths. Chango (G. Wright), which had winning form in the South Island, failed to come on in the concluding stages of the Whyte. Wright said Chango was unable to produce his best over the final stages in the heavy ground.

About a furlong from the finish, Royal Theme (H. Rauhihi) was held up for several strides when he was unable to get clear from behind Gus (W, Skelton) and Jay Ribbon (E. Didham).

General Myth (H. Rauhlhl), the favourite for the Stewards' Handicap, was handy and in the clear after passing the junction of the course proper, but was unable to come on despite being ridden out reasonably. Rauhihi, when he realised that General Mvth was unlikely to reach a place and was unable to respond, did hot persevere over the final halffurlong.

Unsurpassable (L. Tinsley) shifted ground a good deal in the straight, but did not hamper any other runner.
