TRYLESS MATCH
CHRISTCHURCH 9: G. Water reus two penalty goals. ALBION 6: D. C. Leary two penalty goals. It cannot be often that two well-placed senior sides look quite so incapable of scoring a try as Albion and Christchurch did on Saturday. There was much sound of fury from the middle and the touch-lines, but it was a dull business, all fumbles and free kicks. Twentyeight penalties were awarded during the game and there were about three line-outs for each one. Albion, which has not scored a try for six weeks, had a very vigorous front row—G. Thyne, S Innes and L. Scott—and those three were all industry and energy. But the backs never looked likely, although there was some fine kicking from Leary to admire. Christchurch was well led in the forwards by W. Risman, who was in everything, and usually first to the break-down. H. Cottrell achieved much on defence. But the backs, given a good supply of the ball, were all thumbs. It was a disappointing performance by both sides.
