TEST OF SKILL
Motor-cycle Trial
R. Rush brilliantly won the Pioneer Motor Club's testing continuous-circuit motor-cycle trial, held over 104 sections on a new course in the Sheffield area yesterday.
Not even the reigning New Zealand champion. E. Norriss, was able to match Rush on the day, and had to be content with second place. The results have yet to be confirmed, but with the substantial margin of 18 points between the first two. it seems unlikely that there will be any change. Third place went to R. Milner. who finished a further 18 points behind Norriss. The course contained almost every known hazard to trials competition, including stream crossings, shingle, mud traps, steep grass slopes and trees, but Rush mastered every different situation. He established an early lead and at lunch, after 40 sections, had lost only 12 points. Norriss was second was 18 lost, and P. McDonald third with 21.
The afternoon sections were even tougher, and Rush continued to forge ahead. McDonald, obviously shaken by a spectacular fall late in the morning, dropped back to seventh, allowing Milner to ride into third place. Provisional results are:—
R. Rush (Triumph), 42 points lost, 1; E. Norriss (E.N. Special), 60, 2; R. Milner (Triumph), 78, 3; T. Wharnsby (Greeves), 87, 4; P. Chapple (Sprite), 94, 5; P. de Geus (Yamaha), 112, 6: P.
