BADMINTON UPSET

“The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. A young Canterbury badminton representative, G. A. Miller, who is in his first year as a senior player, beat a former New Zealand captain, N. Thompson, three times when Canterbury defeated Southland in a quadrangular tournament at Dunedin on Saturday. Miller, who is only 18, was playing in the first rounds of the Wisden Cup southern zone eliminations. The Canterbury first seed, V. Boatwood, was not available and B. G. Hadlee took his place. It was Hadlee’s first appearance for Canterbury in division I. He has also represented Canterbury in cricket. Hadlee played extremely well, and with Miller beat the top Southland pair, Thompson and K. Elliotte, in the men’s doubles. Results: FIRST DIVISION Canterbury v. Southland (Southland names first.)
